Pope accepts Poroshenko’s invitation to visit Ukraine
Kyiv, November 20, Interfax – Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko has invited Pope Francis to visit Ukraine. The pontiff has accepted this invitation.
“I invited His Holiness to visit Ukraine and he accepted the invitation,” Poroshenko said on Facebook on Friday after meeting with the pope in Rome.
Poroshenko also asked the pope for the beatification of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptitsky and for the beginning of this procedure for Bishop Stepan Chmil, who was the spiritual mentor of the pope in Argentina.
The president characterized the meeting as very moving. “He [the pope] assured me that he never forgets about Ukraine and is praying for peace in our country,” Poroshenko said.
