Police Investigating Policeman Murder In Kyiv
The Holosiivskyi district police department in Kyiv has opened criminal proceedings upon a murder of policeman on January 24 night, reads a statement made by the Kyiv police press service.
The proceedings were opened under Article 115, Section 1 (intentional homicide).
As to law-enforcers, the body of 27-year-old police senior sergeant of the State Protection Service of the Holosiivskyi District Police Department with a gunshot wound in the head was found in the capital’s Holosiivskyi district at night the day before.
The killed police officer was found by guards who work at a building site not far from the crime scene.
They say they heard shots, rushed to the scene and at once called the police.
Eyewitnesses saw two unknown persons were running away from the scene.
The police say their employee was returning home form service without weapon.
Internal Affairs Minister Vitalii Zakharchenko in turn links the murder to non-faction Member of Parliament Oleh Liashko’s call to protesters to attack and detain law-enforcers.
The minister says they possess information that they in the Trade Unions House and the Kyiv Municipal State Administration are piling up firearms.
The press service of the State Protection Service under the Internal Affairs Ministry says their employee during the assault was in plain clothes and without weapon.
They say on January 24 the law-enforcer was on duty 08:00 to 20:00 in the State Protection Service’s detention group, which was providing response to reports about actuation of alarm devices at guarded objects.
After the shift he went to his car, parked 200 metres from the agency building.
The body of the killed policeman was lying on the stretch of way.
All personal belongings, including documents and phone, were with him.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Zakharchenko thinks that in the light of latter days’ events attempts to settle the situation in Kyiv in a peaceful way are unfruitful.
