WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Poland’s defense minister says Poland will help train Ukrainian military instructors in Ukraine, in a NATO response to Kyiv’s request for military assistance.

Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak said Polish military instructors will train their Ukrainian counterparts in bases near the Ukrainian cities of Lviv and Kyiv. The Ukrainians will, in turn, train their non-commissioned officers.

Siemoniak told TVN24 late Wednesday the number of Polish instructors will be decided next month. He said 33 Ukrainian military officers were training in Poland now.

The minister did not exclude that one day Poland may deliver weapons to Ukraine. He said, however, now is the wrong moment for that because more weapons could lead to an escalation of the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
