Party Of Regions Insists Kyiv Elections Should Be Scheduled Only After Decision …
The parliamentary faction of the Party of the Regions is insisting that it will vote for adoption of a resolution on scheduling mayoral and city council elections in Kyiv only after a decision of the Constitutional Court, regardless of the fact that the procedure for preparing the draft resolution for a second reading in the parliament has been abbreviated.
The Party of the Regions parliamentary faction’s leader Oleksandr Yefremov announced this before a vote on a parliamentary resolution on elections in Kyiv.
“We as a faction will make a decision only after the Constitutional Court provides the relevant clarification. If it can [issue a clarification] on the time via a shortened procedure, we will vote in accordance with the Constitutional Court. If not, we will wait for this decision of the court,” he said.
Yefremov stressed that he made this statement specifically to prevent possible insinuation that the Party of the Regions is deceiving somebody.
Yefremov rule out the possibility of the Party of the Regions voting in favor of adoption of this resolution in its final version without the Constitutional Court’s decision, despite the expiration of the time for consideration of the decision.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the parliament on Thursday approved the first reading of a draft resolution on scheduling the next elections of the mayor of Kyiv and the Kyiv city council for June 2.
The parliament reduced to two weeks the period of preparation for consideration of the draft resolution.
