OSCE representative: Ukraine coping with preparations for parliamentary elections

KYIV, July 5. /UKRINFORM/. Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) Janez Lenarcic, at a meeting held with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko, has not made any remarks regarding preparations for the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, which are to be held in October 2012.

The foreign minister wrote this on his page on Twitter.

“I met with Director of the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights Janez Lenarcic. We talked constructively about preparations for the elections. He said that work on the preparation of a mission to monitor the elections in Ukraine is going according to schedule. There are no remarks to the Ukrainian side,” the minister said.

As UKRINFORM reported, OSCE/ODIHR Director Janez Lenarcic is on a working visit to Kyiv on Thursday. The visit is dedicated to discussing the organization of the international observation of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine. It is also planned to sign a memorandum of understanding between the OSCE and the Ukrainian Interior Ministry on the training of law enforcement officers in Ukraine in the sphere of combating hate-based crimes, as well as to discuss the question of Ukraine’s future OSCE chairmanship in 2013.
