OSCE mission investigate the situation around the church in Ukrainian village of Ptichya

Moscow, February 5, Interfax – Special monitoring OSCE mission participates in settling the conflict around the church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the village of Ptichya in the Rovno Region, the UOC reports at its website on Friday.

The mission sent a special working group to the Rovno Diocese, its aim is to settle the conflict legally.

The UOC community has four times confirmed its right for the church in the court, including the Kyiv Appeals Court. However, despite decisions of the court, the Assumption Church in Ptichya is still the subject for claims of the community of the self-proclaimed Kyiv Patriarchate.

The OSCE observers suggested to hold a round table with representatives of authorities, the UOC and ‘UOC CP.’

Interconfessional situation in Ukraine has become more critical after military actions started there. Dozens of UOC churches were seized by representatives of safe-proclaimed Kyiv Patriarchate often backed up by radicals and local officials.

Special resonance was caused by the incident at the village of Ptichya where representatives of the ‘Kyiv Patriarchate’ and banned in Russia the Right Sector did not let the UOC parishioners enter the church, but when a small group of the believers managed to do it and closed it from inside, radicals blocked the church leaving the parishioners without water and heating for several days. They threw petards, pieces of armatures and ‘Molotov cocktail’ into believers and threatened with mass seizure of Orthodox churches in the Rovno Region. According to the UOC, the militia did nothing at all.
