Nuland winds up Kyiv visit
US diplomat ends 2-day visit to Ukraine
US Assistant Secretary of State for European Affairs Victoria Nuland on Saturday met with Ukrainian Interior Minister Arseniy Avakov to discuss reform of the country’s police force.
Nuland a day earlier discussed the situation in the east of the country and the implementation of the Minsk ceasefire agreement with President Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
Nuland travelled to Kyiv after accompanying US Secretary of State John Kerry to the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi where he held talks with the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The situation in Ukraine’s east and implementation of the the Minsk agreement was at the top of the agenda. But those talks offered no sign of concrete progress to end Russia’s invasion of eastern Ukraine that has chilled relations between Russia and the West.
