New Ukrainian law allows referendum on constitutional change

KYIV, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) — Under a new law signed into effect by President Viktor Yanukovych Tuesday, Ukrainians will have the opportunity to vote for or against a suggested change to the constitution.

The referendum could be called by the collection of signatures of at least three million citizens, or the president, or the parliament, according to the law.

The citizens could also choose whether to widen or restrict the administrative power via referendum.

Ukrainian parliament passed the law on Nov. 6.
