New Russian Aid Convoy Ready To Depart For Ukraine

A second humanitarian aid convoy for Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk and Luhansk provinces is waiting in the eastern Russian region of Rostov, Russian Deputy Emergencies Ministry said on Thursday.

The convoy contains 2,000 tons of first aid, medicine, food, water, cleaning appliances, portable power stations and other necessities, said Russian Deputy Emergencies Minister Vladimir Stepanov during a meeting at the Federation Council – upper house of the Russian federal parliament.

“This convoy is waiting ready on border between Rostov and Donetsk,” he added.

The first Russian aid convoy crossed into Ukraine on Aug. 22 without independent supervision, sparking furious claims by Kyiv of a “direct invasion” by Moscow. The trucks had been kept waiting on the border for inspection.

The trucks returned to Russia after they left the aid materials in eastern city of Luhansk.

Unrest in eastern Ukraine has torn the region apart since April, when the government launched “anti-terror” operations against armed separatists seeking to break away from Ukraine. The conflict began following the annexation of Crimea by Russia in March.
