Nationwide recall of Barber Foods stuffed chicken kyiv products
It determined that there was a link between the frozen, raw, stuffed and breaded chicken products from Aspen Foods and this illness cluster.
Six related illnesses have already been reported, making this a Class I recall, the most serious classification. Omaha Steaks is working diligently to eliminate any possible risk to consumers and is working in conjunction with the USDA to ensure the public’s safety.
Tops, Wegmans and Walmart all sold frozen, raw chicken products that have been recalled due to concerns about Salmonella contamination.
Some products were added to the list of Barber Foods products that were initially subject for recall. The affected products bear the establishment number “P-1358″ inside the USDA mark of inspection.
Georgia Department of Agriculture inspectors will be checking retail stores and warehouses to make sure the recalled products have been removed from sale, officials said in a press release. FSIS conducted a traceback investigation after being notified of the positive result.
Consumption of food contaminated with salmonella can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. This bacterium is commonly found on the bodies of healthy people, and it is responsible for producing seven different toxins that cause food poisoning. It is described as “a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death”, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The illness is usually mild, and symptoms can include nausea, vomiting diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
