MUSIC INTERVIEW: KYIV
Experimenting With Warehouse Jams, Planning an Album Reusing Ziploc Bags

In a world that seems to spin faster by the day, where social networking allows us to make friends with one another at a click of the mouse, we may be able to see what people have tagged or who they’ve ‘poked,’ but it can sometimes be difficult to really get to know someone and what they’re about. Feeling friendly, cutting to the chase, and learning something about current musical artists who represent the best of what they do, Buzzine has set a table and would like to introduce you to your Speed Date:
What is your name and where are you from?
Kyiv – from the town of Orange in California
Where are you right now?
In our warehouse.
Hey, do you have a camera on your phone, can we have a pic to see what you’re up to?
Photo here:
If our moms were setting us up on a blind date, what 3 things would your mom tell my mom about you?
He’s a picky eater, he’ll never make any money, and he reuses his ziploc bags.
Why are you answering these questions (what are you promoting)?
We just made an EP, we’re working on a full length album, the internet’s a good way to tell people about it.
What 3 words best describe your musical style?
“Hold onto your butts”
What sentence best sums up your latest album?
Some bloke, I forget who…said “a contender to retroactively soundtrack ancient fairy tales for modern times“
What are you most proud of in your professional life?
Probably the live 3D projection show we did with our friends… or the time the unofficial Will Smith Twitter Account retweeted our article on rollingstone.com
What other music (apart from your own) are you listening to right now?
Uhhhh The new AA Bondy, Jaga Jazzist, 80s King Crimson, This Heat, Antibalas, Gonazales ‘ Solo Piano album…lots of stuff
Who is your musical hero?
The Birdman – Claudio Montuori
When are you the happiest: recording in the studio or playing live on stage? Why?
Recording live jams in our warehouse….it’s where the grooviest stuff happens. One of these days we’ll incorporate it all into our albums and live show.
What has been your greatest ‘rock star’ moment so far?
Playing an exclusive bikini pool party in front of a black glass pyramid…actually it was pretty weird
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Probably wearing black turtle necks and really small circular glasses.
What is your motto?
Less is more and more is also more
Anything more to add?
Always…please refer to our moto.
Where online can fans find out more about you?
http://www.kyivband.com… youtube‘s good too. we make lots of videos.
Kyiv’s most recent self-released EP “Be Gone Dull Cage Others” is an artfully-strutting, volume-demanding slice of fried magic. It’s as big as it is small, it’s perfectly formed, deserves to be heard and shared; it’s friendly and can be purchased from Kyiv’s official website.
