The Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will convene for a meeting in Kyiv on August 13 to elect its new leader.
Such a decision was made by the Holy Synod of the Church on Monday, the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) reported. “On July 7, at a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, under the chairmanship of Locum Tenens of the Kyiv Metropolitan Department Metropolitan of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna Onufriy, for the election of a new leader of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine, it was decided to convene a meeting of the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kyiv on August 13, 2014,” reads the statement. As reported, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Volodymyr died on July 5.
