McDonald’s announces two young winners of the UEFA Euro Cup Player Escort …
Nine-year-old Andrew Sammut from Mosta and Zoe Borg, aged 10 from Manikata, are this year’s lucky winners of the McDonald’s Player Escort Programme. Accompanied by their guardians, both children will fly to Kyiv, Ukraine to escort their UEFA Euro Cup heroes to the field prior to the last final game on 1 July.
Andrew and Zoe together with their relatives were ecstatic when informed that they were the children chosen to be Malta’s Player Escorts. With a six-inch smile on their faces, Andrew and Zoe, accompanied by their delighted relatives, collected the prize from Natasha Giorgio, McDonald’s marketing manager.
“It’s a dream come true. We never imagined that our little Zoe would have this opportunity. I am thrilled to accompany her on this adventure. We will definitely make the most of it,” said her father, Claude Borg.
Winston Pirotta was also overjoyed when his nephew was announced a winner of this competition.
For this year’s Player Escort Competition, children had to send in drawings depicting how they have fun through sports. An independent jury selected the two winners from hundreds of applications received from children aged 6 to 10 from Malta and Gozo. A great deal of anticipation and enthusiasm accompanied this competition that was launched last March in all McDonald’s restaurants in Malta and Gozo, waiting eagerly for the announcement of the lucky winners.
Two years ago McDonald’s had sent Christina Higgins from Fgura for the World Cup Final in Johannesburg, South Africa. She accompanied Puyol Captain of the Spanish Team on to the field; the winning team that year.
“The Player Escort Program along with our UEFA Euro Cup Promotion is part of our continuous efforts to promote a balanced lifestyle. We are delighted to bring the excitement of this monumental event directly to our customers and provide them with a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the UEFA Eurocup final by escorting Europe’s top footballers on to the pitch at the final match of Europe’s most important football event. I am positive that they will enjoy this experience to the full and will keep remembering this experience all their lives,” said Ms Giorgio.
