Manchester City’s Champions League clash at Dynamo Kyiv to be played behind
At least we play in England – its not the same but its close.
That’s the mantra of Blues fans Monday as Manchester City were drawn into a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie with Dynamo Kyiv of Ukraine.
“It’s never easy”, said City’s director of football.
The 51-year old also revealed his delight that they have topped a Champions League group for the first time and stated his belief that City are improving in the competition.
“They have shown in the group stage against Chelsea that they have a good side and it is going to be hard for us”.
City spurned a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 away to CSKA Moscow while playing behind closed doors during the group stages last season but Begiristain does not expect either team to be affected by the empty stands. Were ready to try and improve in this competition and grow.
The controversial Italian striker was then sent off in the return at the Etihad for a karate kick on Goran Popov.
The first leg will be played on 16,17, 23 or 24 February and the second leg will be played on the 8,9,15 or 16 March.
Begiristain claims City must focus on events on the pitch and not underestimate Dynamo.
“They will play football and it’s 11 v 11”. Its going to be tough.
City have reached the last-16 twice before, although they were comfortably beaten 4-1 and 3-1 on aggregate by Barcelona both occasions.
Begiristain added: “We are improving and getting experience in the competition”.
