Man City fans penalised after drawing Dynamo Kyiv

Manchester City supporters are crying foul after being denied the chance to watch their team in the Champions League Round of 16.

City drew Dynamo Kyiv in the first knockout stage of the European competition but will not be able to travel to Ukraine for the first leg on February 24 as the home team have been ordered to play behind closed doors by UEFA.

Kyiv have been penalised for the misbehaviour of supporters and now City fans have copped the wrong end of the stick as they will not be permitted to attend, prompting frustration from Kevin Parker, general secretary of the Manchester City Supporters Club, after City were told not to travel to Russia for a previous meeting with CSKA Moscow.

“If UEFA sticks to its rules that it is going to be played behind closed doors and nobody is going to be in the stadium, that should become an advantage to City,” said Parker.

“However, we City fans have previous with UEFA, when we played CSKA Moscow in a game that was supposedly behind closed doors. Lo and behold there were quite a few CSKA fans in the stadium under this umbrella of UEFA guests.

“City fans and the club, I am sure, will be watching this one with interest to make sure UEFA follows through its rules.”
