Lundy Eyes Garcia vs. Judah Winner, Talks Broner

Hank Lundy didn’t get the opportunity to fight Lucas Matthysse on Showtime in January after managerial problems forced him to withdraw, but he has a chance on Thursday to get himself back into title contention when he faces Viktor Postol in the latter’s native Kyiv, Ukraine. Postol (21-0, 10 KOs) is coming a career best win in October over DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley and followed-up with a stay-busy first round KO of Henry Aurad while he awaited the bout with Lundy. Lundy (22-2-1, 11 KOs) hasn’t fought since July when he suffered a surprising majority decision loss to Ray Beltran. It was a big setback for Lundy, but the 29-year-old Philadelphian knows he’s back with one big win, one he’ll have to travel far away to obtain. Lundy, who had been campaigning at lightweight, will be returning to 140 pounds.
“Once I get this WBC Intercontinental belt, hopefully I can get the winner of the fight between Danny Garcia and Zab Judah,” said Lundy. “The weight was killing me, I’m moving back up to my natural weight. When I fought at 140 at the beginning of my career, that’s where most of my knockouts came from. I’m a big power-puncher at 140. 135 was draining my body.”
Lundy trained and sparred with Adrien Broner leading up to Broner’s fight with Gavin Rees. Broner and Lundy once had a war of words, but have put that behind them as Lundy is now being trained by Broner’s coach Mike Stafford.
“You have two young, hungry, world class fighters going at it,” said Lundy. “It shows I belong right there at the top of the world, being right next to guys like that. It was good work, it reassured me that “Hammerin” Hank belongs on Showtime and HBO in the big fights, too. One day if we fight each other, there will be no hard feelings.”
