‘LFC didn’t do enough’ – €10m striker slams Reds for new transfer fail. Big loss…? – Liverpool
Speaking to reporters last night, Mbokani – who signed for Kyiv last week in a probable €10m deal (the price tag Anderlecht’s GM placed on him in November) – explained:
“I am not sad not to be going to England. Liverpool didn’t do enough to sign me and nor did the other English clubs”
Liverpool have been linked with 27-year old Mbokani several times over the last few years:
Jan 2013: He told The News that ‘Liverpool are interested in me’.
June 2010: Mbokani claimed the Reds had bid for him. He told TalkSport :
“Liverpool gave me a good offer but I had already given the ‘OK’ to Monaco and I could not turn back on them.”
Clearly, the man has principles, and didn’t want to break his word, which is an admirable trait to have in the cynical, self-serving world of football.
DR Congo manager Claude Le Roy certainly thinks very highly of the striker’s talents, and in December, he told Belgian newspaper La Derniere Heure:
“I’ve said that Dieumerci Mbokani is like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and I remain convinced that I am right. He is a luxury for a team in modern football, believe me”.
Liverpool obviously didn’t want Mbokani enough, but has the club missed out here? The Reds need another striker, and Mbokani grabbed 34 goals in 53 games for Anderlecht, which is a decent return.
