Leisure Leagues round-up: Including a victory for Chicken Kyiv against their old …
It was a scorching summer evening of Leisure Leagues fixtures on Sunday at Hemel Hempstead Town FC.
Chicken Kyiv prevailed against old rivals The Fellowship as they clinched a narrow 4-3 win.
The Fellowship’s Andy Hodson prevented a more damaging scoreline during his spell in goal with several lightning quick saves.
Hodson maintained his workrate when out-field and was fittingly awarded man of the match.
Kyiv were buoyed by a return of front man Joe Boggins, who appeared to be the difference between the sides.
Championship side ATBL were without influential captain Charlie Bull this week and it seemed to affect their performance from the outset as they found themselves 5-1 down to AFC Lech Albans – who have already established themselves as title contenders for next season.
Albans’ skipper Kitt Hulse played a pivotal part in the match while it was his goalkeeper Dilraj Johal who picked up the man of the match award for his efforts between the posts. Albans ran out 9-2 winners.
Asa Foster’s Have You Got It made it three wins in succession as they triumphed over Smack My Pitch Up.
Foster’s men were initially trailing 2-1 following an impressive start from Ayden Peacock’s side.
A hat-trick from Have You Got It attacker Joe Dalton gave his team some breathing space as they began to accelerate their lead.
Foster was on top form once again and he truly inspired his team with some stunning strikes and resulting goals. Smack My Pitch Up’s recent signing Owen Wartnaby gained the man of the match accolade for two brilliant goals, which will almost certainly earn him a starting position next week.
Martin Gorman will be delighted with his players following their 6-4 victory over Hemel Elite.
Gorman’s Up Yours FC took advantage of Elite’s defensive errors and also made it their third win in three games. While it was just a two-goal margin that separated the sides, it could have been a much higher scoreline were it not for numerous first class saves from Elite player/manager Chris Wyatt – who managed a fantastic double save in the first half.
The Oysterfarions will look to build on their first outing as they lost to an energetic Slytherin FC.
Captain Sam Sambucci scored the goal of the match as he first played the ball through an opposing player’s legs before sprinting down the line and burying his shot in top right corner of the goal.
Ross Dutton’s The Oysterfarions showed promising signs of talent and they will undoubtedly find their rhythm in coming matches.
Butterflies FC surprised an under-strength Kegs Down FC in an initially close encounter which saw the scores level at 4-4 at half time.
Kegs Down were without captain Liam James and his absence did seem to restrict their variety of play.
Craig Smith was on form for Butterflies as he netted a hat-trick, one of which was a powerful volley, helping to secure his team’s 8-5 victory.
Ross Fitzgerald’s work ethic was outstanding in his team’s match with The Fellowship on Sunday.
He was involved in several goalscoring moves and always looked to play creatively.
Exeter lost some momentum late on in the game but still managed to clinch the win, 5-4.
Fred West Ham were missing captain Adam Devine in their points match, but Aidan Edwards made up the absence as he scored two fantastic goals and ensured his team finished the season as worthy runners-up.
