Kyiv’s raid must be stopped – Lavrov to Kerry
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed with the US Secretary of State John Kerry the situation in Ukraine in light of the presidential elections and stressed the need to end the Kyiv punitive operation in the southeast of the country, stated the Foreign Ministry.
“Various aspects of the acute internal crisis in Ukraine were discussed in the context of past presidential elections on May 25. Sergey Lavrov stressed the need for the immediate cessation of Kyiv’s punitive operation in the southeastern regions and the early start of a national dialogue, including direct talks with southeastern representatives for a peaceful settlement,” said the Russian authorities in a published statement on its website on Wednesday.
As was noted in the Foreign Ministry, the telephone conversation of foreign ministers was held on the initiative of the American side. Lavrov and Kerry agreed “to continue working closely together,” stressed the Ministry in Moscow.
The foreign ministers also discussed the situation with the completion of chemical disarmament in Syria, the Foreign Ministry added.
