The leadership of Ukraine, in the light of the convincing victory of Vladimir Putin at the presidential elections in Russia, will need to develop new tactics in its relations with the new Russian leadership.
This opinion was expressed by a known Ukrainian political scientist, Director of the Kyiv Institute of European Political Culture, Oleksandr Bulavin. “The Ukrainian President should at least develop new tactics towards Moscow on all major important and urgent challenges: gas, trade wars, Ukraine’s entry into a free trade zone with CIS countries and so on. And it would be desirable even to begin putting this tactics in life,” Bulavin noted. According to him, quite a convincing victory of Putin in the March 4 elections, “despite some minor comments of observers in the West” is likely to make a few adjustments in the strategy and tactics of the world’s major political players. Significantly, the political scientist said, the leader of China was one of the first to have congratulated Putin on his victory. Bulavin also predicts changes in Moscow’s position on Kyiv. At a time when the United States generally failed in its far-reaching intentions in Russia, it will seek to create intolerable conditions on Russia’s borders and strengthen the interest in Ukraine’s problems, he stressed, adding, under these circumstances, the Kremlin too will have to look for other tools of dialogue with this country, to avoid visible aggressive actions and ultimatums.
