Kyiv, Separatists Accuse Each Other of Violating Cease-Fire
KYIV – The Ukrainian military and pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine accused each other on Tuesday of violating the cease-fire in force in the conflict zone.
The pro-Russian separatists, according to the Ukrainian leadership, attacked the positions of government troops 33 times on Monday.
According to the Ukrainian military statement, most of the attacks, in which the militias used grenade launchers and heavy machine guns, took place north of the city of Donetsk.
The Kyiv military note referred, without reporting any casualties among the Ukrainians, to the “terrorists’” use of mortars and weapons that, according to the settlement plan for the conflict, should have been removed at least 15 kilometers (9.5 miles) from the line of separation between forces.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the pro-Russian separatists denounced the Ukrainian troops shelling of the northern suburb of Donetsk, including the area of the airport, for nine hours.
According to the latest figures from the United Nations the conflict in eastern Ukraine has killed more than 8,000 people, including civilians and fighters.
