Kyiv says shelling of Donetsk airport continues

A representative of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) hopes that a ceasefire agreement for the Donetsk airport reached at the Contact Group will be fulfilled at some point but says the bombardments continue for now.

“Indeed, we welcome such statements and hope that the meeting scheduled for today will bring tangible results,” NSDC spokesman Andriy Lysenko told Interfax on Tuesday.

“But in reality the shelling continues. We hope that the militants hear about the decision made by the negotiating parties,” Lysenko stated.

The Ukrainian army operation press center said earlier that on Monday it was decided to begin a ceasefire in the Donetsk airport area.

A ceasefire meeting of representatives of the general staffs of Ukraine and Russia and the militants is due to take place in Donetsk on Tuesday, December 2.

“Much attention will be given to Donetsk airport because this facility is important both for the Ukrainian armed forces and some units of districts of the Donetsk region,” the Ukrainian army press center said.

In turn, self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) parliament vice-speaker Denis Pushilin said it would be too much early to comment on the Contact Group’s meeting dedicated to the peace process in Donbas.

“It would be premature to give any additional information. Another working meeting will be held today and only then it will be possible to share some information,” Pushilin told reporters.
