Kyiv ready to supply energy to Crimea under Ukraine’s terms – Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that Kyiv insists on electricity supplies to Crimea under a relevant agreement containing legally correct wordings.

“My position is absolutely clear and transparent: Crimea is home to Ukrainian citizens and we are doing everything not to make life more difficult for them. But for the electricity supply agreement to be signed […]. We will sign the agreement and ensure energy supplies, but the agreement must contain these words: ‘delivery of electricity to an enterprise based in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukraine’ – we have no alternative,” Poroshenko told a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

There is no energy blockade of Crimea, but there is “a format of commercial contracts where we clearly note the position recognized by the whole world,” Poroshenko said.

“But in response, that side decided not to sign this agreement. It was not the Ukrainian position, and we will never recognize the annexation of Crimea, just as the whole world never will,” he said.

“Despite claims that this winter we have irreversible rolling blackouts, that we will remain without gas, without light, without coal, industry will stall – no chance. We have light, even without backflows from Russia. And we are ready to supply electricity, but to a Ukrainian Crimea,” Poroshenko said.
