Kyiv Post: Journalistic brethren ‘worked up’ over Poroshenko’s Paris speech

Press review reveals double standards

Ukraine Today takes a look at an op-ed co-written by Brian Bonner and Olga Rudenko of the English-language revamped subscription-based Kyiv Post ezine. The 800-word piece looks at reactions to Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko’s speech this week in France. Several self-aggrandizing French and English-language journalists reacted negatively on social media platforms to Poroshenko’s comparison between the recent attack on civilians in Paris with deadly Kremlin-led attacks in Donbas for the past 21 months.

Former Kyiv Post editor Christopher Miller, now working for Mashable, also tweeted in: “A tactless remark and attempt to use #ParisAttacks to bring attention to #Ukraine, Mr. President.”

The authors say they find it surprising that the journalists who found Poroshenko’s comparison outrageous are ‘the ones’ who reported from Ukraine about the Russia’s hybrid invasion. Maybe they mean Miller. Maybe French journalists. Maybe not.
