Kyiv In Mid-December To Select First Higher School To Introduce Free WiFi …
The Kyiv Municipal State Administration has plans for mid-December to choose a university which will become the first higher education institution where free WiFi access to the internet will be introduced, press secretary to deputy chairman of the Kyiv Municipal State Administration Ruslan Kramarenko, Olesia Ostafiyeva, has announced at a press conference.
“In mid-December will be selected the first higher school where free WiFi will appear shortly,” she said.
On November 1, was built a site wifi.ua, which invites voting to determine the higher school; at the moment the national technical university Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) is leading the voting.
Ostafiyeva added, the project to provide free of charge WiFi access to the internet in the university will be realised at sponsor’s money, Kyiv Free WiFi.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Education and Science, Youth and Sports Minister Dmytro Tabachnyk proposed that chiefs of educational institutions of III-IV levels of accreditation consider the issue of equipping higher schools’ educational buildings with wireless WiFi networks.
Tabachnyk opines, implementation of these networks will help students and higher school staff to obtain access to the internet on territory of the entire educational institution, and also will raise the level of usage in academic and research activity of a number of specific sources available on the web only (electronic scientific publications, foreign publications placed via the internet and so on).
