Kyiv hosts Ukraine-EU cooperation meeting – NRCU
“On July 4-5, 2012, the seventh meeting of Subcommittee 4 on energy, transport, nuclear safety and the environment of the committee on cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union was held at the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine,” the ministry says. According to the ministry, the meeting participants discussed the issues of energy, nuclear safety, transport, environmental policy and outer space industry. In particular, energy policy of the European Union and Ukraine on cooperation in the energy, gas, oil and coal sectors, including modernization of the Ukrainian gas transport system and restructuring of Naftogaz of Ukraine, were considered. Progress made during the stress tests at nuclear power plants and implementation of the project Shelter was also covered. The meeting was chaired by Volodymyr Makukha, Deputy Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine, and Reinhold Brender, Deputy Head of Division, Eastern Partnership – Bilateral Relations with Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus and the Southern Caucasus, European External Action Service (EEAS). On the part of Ukraine, the meeting was attended by representatives of the energy, environment, economic development, infrastructure, regional development and foreign affairs ministries, the Cabinet of Ministers’ secretariat, state agencies for environmental investment, power efficiency, exclusion zone management, nuclear regulation, roads, aviation and space, energy market, as well as Ukrenergo, Naftogaz of Ukraine, Ukrtransgaz and Ukrtransnafta. On the European side, the meeting was attended by representatives of the EEAS, the European Commission, EC Delegation in Kyiv, the embassies of Germany, Sweden, Finland, Poland and Bulgaria. The previous, sixth, general meeting of Subcommittee 4 took place in Brussels (Belgium) on March 24-25, 2011.
