Kyiv and Brussels hold a meeting of high-level committee on energy issues
It is reported that Kyiv and Brussels intend to hold a meeting of a high level committee on energy issues soon.
Mr Eduard Stavytsky, Ukrainian Energy minister said that Ukrainian journalists about this arrangement after a meeting with European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger.
Mr Stavytsky said that the idea of establishing such a committee came as a result of an energy conference, which was held in Brussels on May 3rd.
He said that “Consultations are currently held at the level of offices of the European Commission and the Fuel and Energy Ministry, during which we will work out an action plan for the work of this committee.”
He added that the committee will be in charge of not only the issues of gas supply and liberalization of the gas market, but also the broader issues of liberalization of Ukraine’s energy market in general. I am talking about electricity, gas market, and alternative sources.
Mr Stavytsky said that such a meeting could be held in Kyiv soon. Two dates will be determined soon, which I will report to the president and the prime minister of Ukraine. This will be a very high level: at least several commissioners will be present at this committee.
He added that the committee will include EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and EU Commissioner for Trade Karel De Gucht.
He further added that “This will take place before the summit in Vilnius, in September, and is to be chaired at least by Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.”
