Kharkiv City Council has asked the court to prohibit the installation of tents near Kachanivska penal colony No 54 in Kharkiv, where former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko is held.

“This is connected with repair works on the street, where the penal colony is situated,” director of the department for cooperation with law enforcement agencies at Kharkiv City Council Valentyn Topchy told Interfax-Ukraine.

Tymoshenko was placed in Kyiv’s remand center on August 5, 2011.

On October 11, she was sentenced to seven years in prison for exceeding her authority when signing the gas deals with Russia in 2009.

Tymoshenko was transferred to Kachanivska Penal Colony No. 54 in Kharkiv on December 30.

The ex-premier’s supporters set up two campaign tents of the Batkivschyna Party outside Kachanivska penal colony in Kharkiv on Wednesday.

Chairman of the district organization of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union branch in Kharkiv Oleksandr Shtepko said that the tents would be open daily from 0800 until 2000 and would distribute propaganda materials.
