Kazakhstan "puzzled" by Ukraine’s concern over Nazarbayev’s statements
ASTANA, March 28 (Xinhua) — The Kazakh Foreign Ministry said Friday it was “puzzled” by Kyiv which sent a note to it concerning Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s recent statements on the Ukrainian situation.
On Wednesday, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry invited a Kazakh diplomat to the ministry, presenting him a note which expressed Kyiv’s concern about Nazarbayev’s statements on Ukraine at a press briefing in The Hague, according to Yevgeny Perebinis, a Kazakh Foreign Ministry spokesman.
“We were perplexed about the note. Apparently, this note was caused by emotions mostly, not common sense,” Perebinis told reporters at a briefing.
Kazakhstan takes a balanced and realistic position on the situation in Ukraine, he said.
“On several occasions including those in The Hague, the Kazakh president made a call for a way out of the Ukrainian crisis on the basis of peaceful talks among all sides,” the spokesman added.
