John Terry Rips into Robbie Savage During Chelsea Press Conference
Chelsea host Dynamo Kyiv tomorrow night and will be hoping to leapfrog the Ukrainian champions with a win to reach second place. Terry took time out from the Blues’ relegation battle to tell us that he can accept criticism from a few of the best he’s played against “on the chin”, but he made it very clear that not everyone in the game should be entitled to an opinion. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was forced to deny rumors of a player revolt at the club, which Terry also rejected as false.
And one of his main targets was former player and TV presenter Robbie Savage. He has dug me out a couple of times.
“When others speak, maybe I don’t take it on the chin”.
What we can say is that, judging by John Terry’s performances for the media, the mentality of the Chelsea players is closer to defiance than resignation. I’ll sit there and listen and take everything in and try and improve that. I take that on the chin.
Terry, 34, has endured a miserable season for Chelsea, starting five of the defending champions’ six Premier League defeats this season.
“I go back to that: he’s under pressure because of the way we’re performing”. He takes it on his own shoulders.
There’s just one more thing to do, arguably the most important part of our modern day ritual… hitting the mute button. I’m sure, and I’m adamant, that we’ll turn this around and he’ll be in charge for the rest of the season and long after I’ve finished playing for this club.
If we rewind back to Sunday June 20th 2010, England’s World Cup was in the balance after two draws with the U.S. and Algeria in their opening two games. “If you guys want honest, immediate answers after the game, give him a bit of freedom”.
