Holland forward Jeremain Lens will arrive in Sunderland on Wednesday ahead of his £8million move from Dynamo Kyiv.
However, the Black Cats will not be signing Belgian defender Nicolas Lombaerts after he failed a medical.
The 30-year-old was expected to complete his transfer from Zenit St Petersburg on Tuesday but Sunderland pulled out of the deal amid concerns over the centre-back’s physical condition.

Lens, who plays for Dynamo Kyiv, is close to completing an £8million switch the the Premier League side
Lens, meanwhile, has agreed personal terms and, should his medical pass without any problems, he will join the club on their North American tour later this week.
The 27-year-old began his career at AZ Alkmaar before moving to PSV, where he averaged a goal every three games.
He signed for Kyiv two years ago and last season helped them to the domestic double.

Lens has been capped 29 times by Holland – scoring eight goals – and Dick Advocaat could use the Amsterdam-born star in a wide position, just as Louis van Gaal did at last summer’s World Cup.
Meanwhile, Sunderland winger Adam Johnson has not travelled with the squad to the United States, although he could join them when they travel to Canada at the weekend ahead of their friendly with FC Toronto.
Johnson will stand trial next month having pleaded not guilty to three counts of sexual activity with a child aged under 16 and one offence of grooming.
