Jagielka frustrated as unlucky Everton come away from Kyiv empty-handed

Everton captain Phil Jagielka believes his side were extremely unlucky in their heavy defeat to Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday night.

The Toffees were unceremoniously dumped from the Europa League at the Round of 16 stage 6-4 on aggregate following their 5-2 second leg loss in the Ukrainian capital.

Dynamo had the rub of the green with the way they scored their goals and Jagielka suggests it could be his side progressing to the quarter-finals if the Merseysiders had a similar amount of fortune.

“There is a lot of frustration in there on a night everything they hit went in and everything we hit didn’t,” Jagielka said.

“I am not pretending that we played well but if we had the luck they had tonight then it would have been us going through and not them.

“The first was a bit of a special strike, although we’re disappointed he got the shot off, and the third got a deflection but is still a pretty good strike and there other aspects we could’ve done better.

“The post wasn’t our friend tonight and we perhaps didn’t play the occasion as well as we should’ve done.”
