Jack Wilshere is willing and able to shine in Kyiv
The youngster Arsenal are pinning their long term future on is expected to get another opportunity to show if England can do the same.
And at the ripe old age of 21 Wilshere reckons the game against Ukraine is the biggest of his career – for England at any rate.
“It will be the biggest without a doubt,” he admitted.
“Moldova was my first World Cup qualifier, hopefully I can get into the team for my second in Ukraine. But it is going to be tough.”
No one really doubts that Wilshere will take it all in his stride. Despite missing almost a full season through injury he already looks – and sounds – like the finished article.
It is fair to say that the Ukraine game will be a lot more testing than Moldova were on Friday. But Wilshere is ready, willing and very definitely able.
“It’s a big game. But we know what we have to do,” said the midfielder.
“We had to get the Moldova game out of the way. It was the type of game where we had to be professional and we were.
“We got an early goal – a great goal by Gerrard – and then we pushed on from there. It was an all-round performance
“We played well, got an early goal and then a few more goals, which was nice. Now we have to recover and get ready for a bigger test on Tuesday.
“Ukraine is going to be a harder game but we know that.
“They’ve got some dangerous players. We saw that when they came to Wembley. So we have to be ready to defend well and to attack as well. It’s going to be tough.
“Hopefully we’ll still be on top of the group if we get a good result over there and then we’ll see going into the last two games. It will be in our own hands.”
