International police mission to work at Boeing 777 crash site unarmed – ITAR
KYIV, August 01. /ITAR-TASS/. An international police mission to be deployed at the Boeing 777 crash site will have no arms, Ukraine’s vice-premier Vladimir Groisman said on Friday.
“An international commission headed by the Netherlands will decide whether a police mission is going to be sent to the crash site. No such decision has been made so far. Police officers who will work at the crash site will be unarmed,” Groisman, who heads the Ukrainian State Committee that investigates the crash causes, told a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.
On August 31, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko signed a parliament-ratified agreement with the Netherlands and Australia allowing the international community to send police, military and civilian personnel to Ukraine.
The Boeing 777 of Malaysia Airlines crashed en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur over Ukraine’s Donetsk region on July 17. All the 298 people onboard, most of them Dutch (196), died in the crash.
