Kyiv, September 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Election 2012 Public Control project has been launched in Ukraine to check for violations of electoral law during the elections to the Verkhovna Rada.
“Our project is politically independent. Our goal is to create the most objective information resource possible. We do not have the aim of supporting any candidates, or ignoring them. Our goal is to provide objective information, which should be as full as possible, which can help voters make a true assessment of what is happening,” manager of the Slovo I Dilo (Word and Deed) project Viktoria Peshaya said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.
According to Peshaya, the Slovo I Dilo project, the Euro Patrol public movement and the Independent Media Trade Union will check for violations of the electoral legislation.
She said the first public platform for exposing, registering and making public violations during the election campaign will be launched as a part of the project. In addition, the initiators of the project call on ordinary citizens, as well as candidates from different political parties and self-nominees to expose, record and report violations of the law during the election campaign.
Peshaya stressed that they would report their findings to Ukrainians, as well as international observers of the parliamentary elections in Ukraine.
She said they have already reached preliminary agreement with some international monitoring missions. Peshaya said they would report their findings to these missions every week.
According to her, the campaign is not financed by any political party or individual politicians.
The participants in the campaign are working on a voluntary basis. Naturally, there are expenses, which are funded by a charitable organization and partners of Euro-patrol public movement, she said.
