Hungary Wizz Air to fly to Kyiv, Tel-Aviv from December
Low-cost airline Wizz Air has announced two new destinations from Budapest on Monday. As of today, the carrier offers flights from the Hungarian capital city to Kyiv (Zhulyany), Ukraine and Tel-Aviv (Ben Gurion), Israel. This means the no-frills airline was granted the right to fly to these destinations from the collapsed Malév.
Both destinations will be available from Budapest from December, but tickets may be reserves as of today.
The two new additions increase the number of destinations by Wizz Air from Budapest to 31. The carrier will fly two the new destinations three times a week each, initially, and Wizz Air expects 100,000 passengers on these flights a year.
The low-cost airline is still waiting for an official approval for the Budapest-Kyiv and Budapest Tel-Aviv routes by the respective civic aviation authorities of the two countries.
Wizz Air also announced the signing of a three-year contract with Malév Ground Handling at the Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
Wizz Air CEO József Váradi expects the low ticket prices (from HUF 4,990 to Kyiv and from HUF 9,900 to Tel-Aviv) to give a boost to tourism on these destinations, as these offers may be found attractive also by those who could not afford the high fares so far.
“We also expect the number of business flights to go up among cost-sensitive new businesses and opportunity-seeking businessmen.”
