HT: France 2-0 (agg 2-2)

France are back in with a shout of reaching the World Cup after getting themselves on level terms with Ukraine on aggregate at the Parc des Princes.
Didier Deschamps’ men were outplayed by Ukraine last week and found themselves 2-0 down after the first leg of their play-off in Kyiv but goals from Mamadou Sakho and Karim Benzema have given Les Bleus a two-goal advantage in Paris.
With 22 minutes played the French made their breakthrough when Liverpool defender Sakho managed to find the back of the net. Mathieu Valbuena’s cross was cleared to Franck Ribery who saw his shot saved by Andriy Pyatov but Sakho was on hand to smash in the rebound.
France thought they had their second on the half an hour mark but Benzema’s finish after Ribery’s pass was ruled out for offside.
However, Benzema made it two just moments later when he fired home after a goal-mouth scramble in the Ukraine box and France now have the home advantage for the second period.
