Ukrainian Foreign Minister Kostiantyn Hryshchenko on Friday held talks at the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil, he has written on Twitter.
“The visit of President Viktor Yanukovych to Brazil in October 2011 opened a new chapter in relations with this powerful country, and our strategic partner… Now I’m here to compare notes with Brazilian counterparts and together fill our new partnership with specific projects,” Hryshchenko said.
The minister noted that key topics of his talks with Brazilian officials were the economy, the space sector, technology, and the training of Brazilian experts at Ukrainian universities.
Hryschenko also said that he had already held talks at the Energy Ministry of Brazil.
“There are good prospects for our engineering products and for attracting Brazilian technologies to step up our energy security,” he wrote.
He also said that Brazil’s Petrobras oil company has unique technology for deep water oil production and is interested in cooperation in the Black Sea shelf.
During his visit, the Ukrainian foreign minister also met with his Brazilian counterpart Antonio de Aguiar Patriota. The two ministers discussed the state of implementation and the ways for realization of the agreements that were reached during the state visit of the Ukrainian president to Brazil in 2011.
According to the Foreign Ministry’s press service, they talked about the expansion of the existing ties and search for new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation with a view of filling the strategic partnership between Ukraine and Brazil with specific projects. They focused on cooperation in trade and economic, energy, shipbuilding sector and chemical industry.
The two ministers recalled the implementation of the two countries’ joint space project Cyclone-4-Alcantara and the entry into force in late 2011 of the intergovernmental agreement on the cancelation of visas for short-term visits by Ukrainians to Brazil and Brazilians to Ukraine for tourism or business purposes, the press service reported.
The two parties also noted the similarity of approaches not only in terms of the prospects for the development of bilateral relations, but on the key issues of world politics.
Hryschenko is currently on an official visit to Brazil.
