Harper to visit Ukraine next week

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will travel to Ukraine next week to meet with government officials, days after a planned referendum in Crimea. Harper will be in Kyiv on March 22 to meet with Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk ahead of a visit to Germany and a nuclear summit in the Netherlands.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird, who spoke to reporters shortly after the Prime Minister’s Office announced the trip, underscored that this will make Harper the first G7 leader to announce a visit to Ukraine “at this very pivotal time.”
