The Ukrainian government plans to increase affordable housing construction to 100,000 apartments per year, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov said in Kyiv on Monday.
“We need to reach a figure of 100,000 apartments per year, and we have assigned such a task,” he said, when presenting keys to the new settlers of the Liko-Grad residential complex building at 4A Meitusa Street in Holosiyivsky district in Kyiv.
Azarov said that about 8,000 apartments per year are sold under two state affordable housing programs, in particular, the partial compensation of housing costs by the state (the state pays 30%) and mortgage crediting at 3% per annum.
“We hope that a program of industrial housing (accommodation for industrial workers) will be launched next year,” he said.
According to the prime minister, Ukrainian experts are studying the experience of Europe in the construction of industrial housing with a low cost per square meter, and the government plans to bring the cost of housing in Ukraine to less than UAH 5,000 per square meter.
“The implementation of such programs will allow housing construction in the country to increase by several times,” he said.
