Kyiv (dpa) – Jailed Ukrainian ex-premier Yulia Tymoshenko may end
a hunger strike soon, but only if she receives medical treatment from
a foreign doctor, her daughter Yegvenia said on Tuesday, according to
an Interfax news agency report.
“Mama was examined and the diagnosis of the German doctors was
that treatment must start immediately, otherwise she could become an
invalid,” the younger Tymoshenko said. “She, by appearance, has lost
10 kilograms, her body temperature has dropped significantly and she
is in a fainting condition.”
Tymoshenko lawyer Sergei Vlasenko told reporters outside the
prison in eastern Ukraine that Tymoshenko was “prepared” to begin
treatment on Wednesday, but added: “If (Ukrainian) government doctors
try to treat her, she will again refuse treatment … these are the
same doctors that have been writing daily reports saying she is
healthy.”
