Dynamo Kyiv rescues 2-2 draw against Porto

Dynamo Kyiv substitute Vitaliy Buyalskyi struck a late equaliser to rescue a point for his side as their opening Champions League Group G clash against Porto ended 2-2 at the Olympic Stadium.

Buyalskyi saved the day though to give Kyiv heart for the rest of the campaign against English champions Chelsea and Maccabi Tel-Aviv.

“Our homework paid off as we’ve scored twice tonight”.

“Now we will start to think about [Sunday’s] match against Benfica”.

Buyalskiy was onside, but other Dynamo players were not and Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas appeared to protest they had interfered with play. Porto allowed no more than three minutes of joy for the home fans as Aboubakar headed in a flawless Miguel Layun cross.

Porto and Dynamo Kyiv go into half time level, after Vincent Aboubakar equalises for the Portuguese side three minutes after Oleg Gusev broke the deadlock.

After the break, last season’s quarter-finalists Porto, whose manager Lopetegui was serving a touchline ban, dominated possession but to no immediate avail as Dynamo defended stoutly, stifling the visitors’ attacks.

The Cameroonian forward scored his second in the 81st minute after a period of pressure by Porto, hitting the ball into the unguarded net after Dynamo goalkeeper Oleksandr Rybka jumped for a punch but missed.

“The draw seems to be the fairest result”, Dynamo head coach Serhiy Rebrov said.
