UEFA has ordered Dynamo Kyiv to play their next three European home games in an empty stadium as punishment for offences including racist behaviour by fans during the Champions League match against Chelsea last month.

Football’s European anti-discrimination body Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) passed footage to UEFA of an apparent attack on four black fans at the match in Ukraine on October 20 which ended 0-0. Charges were brought against Dynamo for racist behaviour, crowd disturbances and blocked stairways.

The club has also been fined €100,000 (£70,000) – and the order of closed doors for the third match will be suspended for three years and only applied if further offences are committed.

A UEFA statement read: ‘Dynamo Kyiv has been ordered to play their next three UEFA competition matches as host club behind closed doors. The third match is suspended for a probationary period of three years.’

FARE’s executive director, Piara Powar, said last month: ‘Usually we do not go public with these sort of reports – but we thought the footage was so serious that it should be shared with the media.’

Earlier this year, Dynamo were fined £11,000 by European football’s governing body following the racist behaviour of their fans during a Europa League match against Everton at the same venue.

The Ukrainian side were also punished for setting off fireworks and for insufficient organisation during the 5-2 second-leg win over the Toffees in March.

UEFA also ordered partial closure of their home ground for the first leg of the quarter-final against Fiorentina the following month.

Chelsea fans were also ambushed by balaclava-clad thugs in Kyiv just hours before the Blues faced Dynamo.

A group of around 30 supporters were attacked in the Ukrainian capital just moments after they had left the Shato Brewery bar just off Independence Square.

Several fans were left bruised and bloodied with at least one requiring hospital treatment following the unprovoked attack.

The thugs charged at the Chelsea fans, including women and the elderly, knocking them to the ground with kicks and punches.

One Chelsea fan, who asked to not to be named, said: ‘It was orchestrated. Five guys turned up at the pub and sussed us out.

‘One was texting at the bar and they were obviously lying in wait to have a dig.’
