Dynamo Kyiv draws Manchester City in Champions League last-16

Manchester City’s Champions League away leg against Dynamo Kyiv will be played behind closed doors.

Dynamo were hit with a three-game UEFA punishment following racist chanting at their group stage clash with Chelsea in October.

Manchester City face a tough task if they are to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time despite being drawn against Dynamo Kyiv in the round of 16 in this season’s competition, according to sporting director Txiki Begiristain.

“It’s important to keep improving and growing in this competition and we are going to fight to get to the quarters”.

The weather sometimes doesnt help but we have to be ready.

But Dynamo knocked City out of the Europa League in 2011 in the only time they have met and Begiristain was keen to dampen the euphoria around the draw. At least we play in England – it’s not the same, but it’s close.

Last season City fans – many of who had already bought visas and booked hotels and flights – were hit by a similar Uefa stadium closure at CSKA Moscow.

Ex-Spurs striker Sergei Rebrov is now the head coach and steered them through a group containing Chelsea, Porto and Maccabi Tel Aviv.

He said: “City are a top team with great individuals, but they do not have the experience of the trio I want to avoid”.
