Reno Domenico
On Sunday, May 6, Democrats Abroad Ukraine will host voting for Americans wishing to participate in the 2012 US Democratic Party presidential primary.
The official voting center polling station will be located in Kyiv at: Sterling Business School, 7 Nesterovskiy Lane, office 12, Kyiv, Ukraine, 04053. (near Lvivska Square)
The polling station will be open from noon to 8 p.m.
American citizens who will be 18 years of age or older on Nov. 6, and who are, or wish to be, members of Democrats Abroad may vote at the voting center.
Democrats Abroad, formally called the Democratic Party Committee Abroad, is recognized as an official state party organization of the Democratic Party, in the same manner as party branches in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, and other US territories.
All members of Democrats Abroad Ukraine, and any interested Americans and their local friends and relatives are welcome to attend the vote counting at 8 p.m. on May 6.
Reno Domenico, president of Democrats Abroad Ukraine, says he’s running as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, later this summer.
U.S. President Barack Obama is running unopposed in the Democratic Party primary and will face Republican Mitt Romney in November’s general election.
Domenico listed these reasons to vote on Sunday:
If you have not yet made up to your mind to attend and vote; let us suggestthe positive things that happen when you do vote in the DA primary!
1.You help Obama.Sure, he is already going to be the nominee and voter turnout on the Dem side of presidential primaries is very low, but that is exactly the point. A larger-than-expected turnout abroad is a news story that tells the national and international press that Americans overseas are sensitive to the very negative impact of a potential Republican victory.
2.You help the Democratic Party Committee Abroad, (our official state party name), to positively influence the Democratic National Committee to continue to support our get out the vote efforts around the world and fund some of our activities and pay the salary of our executive director. The Democratic Party Committee Abraod is in constant competition with other state parties for support and a larger-than-expected turnout says volumes to the Democratic National Committee.
3.You help Democrats Abroad Ukrainein a major way. A higher than expected turnout in Democrats Abroad Ukraine brings additional voting power at the Global Convention on May 19-20 (it’s proportional by country committee), not only in the election of additional delegates, but voting for the six members of the Democratic National Committee to be elected in Mexico.
4.You can help to elect a Democrats Abroad memberto be a delegate to the national convention in Charlotte. This is the first direct election of delegates since 1988 and is a move in the right direction for more member participation and direct democracy.
5.And last, but not least, you help yourself!!!Participation is contagious and gives one a great sense of doing something important for the country, our party and our local organization.Voting is what we believe in as Democrats!
