Crimean Muslims describe as split the attempt to create Crimean Muslim board’s ‘clone’ in Kyiv

Simferopol, January 18, Interfax – An all-Crimea conference of Crimean Tatar religious figures and public organizations has condemned the planned establishment of an alternative Crimean Muslim Board in Kyiv and has opposed the appeals to reunite the peninsula with Ukraine.

“We support the mufti of Crimean Muslims as the spiritual leader of the Crimean Tatar people. (…) We condemn any attempts to create Muslim centers alternative to the Department of Crimean Muslims both inside and outside Crimea. Such actions mean the deepening split of the Crimean Muslim community and the Crimean Tatar people and are condemned by Allah as a grave sin,” conference delegates said in their resolution.

The conference also condemned appeals for Crimean Tatars’ departure from the peninsula and involvement in armed units stationed in Ukraine’s Kherson Region bordering Crimea.

“The involvement in the pseudo-jihad is at odds with the interests of the Crimean Tatar people and endangers their live in the home country. We ask young Crimean Tatars not to leave the land of their ancestors, not to join the armed units and not to submit to pseudo-Islamic appeals,” the resolution said.

According to the organizers, the conference, ‘New Challenges to the Unity of the Crimean Islamic Ummah’, held in Simferopol, on Saturday, had a turnout of more than 450. The delegates represented 350 Islamic communities from every Crimean region and 42 Crimean Tatar political and public associations.
