Compromising in favor of the "Right Sector" will mean a complete defeat for …
On July 11 a group of militants from Ukrainian extremist organization “Right Sector” staged a gunfight with the law enforcement officials in the city of Mukachevo in western Ukraine. As a result, at least two militants and six police officers were killed and three civilians were injured.
The militants said they would only surrender if the organization’s leader, Dmitry Yarosh gives the order to do so. In addition, they demanded that the authorities provide them with a guarantee of safe travel to Kyiv.
“The events that took place in Mukachevo, and what is now unraveling in Kyiv, as well as some strange and mysterious “Right Sector’s” behavior indicate that the clashes with the security forces of Ukraine were not an improvisation, but a thoughtful, and, most importantly, controlled by the “Right Sector’s” leaders algorithm of actions”, – explained the deputy director of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies (RISS) Tamara Guzenkova in an interview with “Russian peacekeeper.”
“Right Sector” has contributed to the overthrow of Yanukovych, helped the current oligarchy to come to power, and was one of the first to take part in the military operation in south-eastern Ukraine. Now Kyiv, who no longer needs “Right Sector’s” support has launched a campaign to discredit them,”- says Guzenkova.
“The main goal for the Ukrainian authorities is making “Right Sector” unable to compromise Kyiv with their participation in regular army operations. And the “Right Sector” leaders are now busy trying to save their own lives, because political clean-ups are usually followed by physical eliminations” – the expert claims.
Thus Kyiv and personally the president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko won’t find an easy way out of this situation, says Guzenkova. “Whatever decision is accepted by Poroshenko on the “Right Sector issue”, he will still get trapped. Wide compromise in favor of the “Right Sector” requirements shall mean the complete defeat of Kyiv’s policy: Ukrainian ruling group would be forced to admit that it’s controlled by the extreme nationalist sector and is not capable of forming the country’s agenda. If Kyiv starts the “Right Sector” clean-up, the militants, who have considerable amount of equipment and weapons at their disposal, will surely find how to answer to the Ukrainian authorities,” – the expert explained.
According to Guzenkova, the current political regime in Ukraine has entered a new stage of the crisis that Kyiv may not be able to survive.
