Coca-Cola ups sales in Russia 3% in 2012

MOSCOW – Coca-Cola Company upped sales in Russia 3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2012, the company said in a press release.

Sales dropped 5% and 3%, respectively, in the third and fourth quarters of 2011.

Growth was driven in January-March by an increase in fizzy drinks sales, including a 20% climb in Coca-Cola brand drinks and a 31% climb for Fanta.

The company’s share of the Russian non-alcoholic ready to drink (NARTD) beverages market, and on the fizzy drinks market, grew both in volume and in value terms. Coca-Cola also increased its share in value terms on the Russian still drinks market.

Coca-Cola Company shares overall climbed 5% in the first quarter. The company showed growth on its key developed markets.

Coca-Cola has 14 plants in Russia and 75 distribution centers. Coca-Cola Company and Coca-Cola HBC bought Russian juice company Multon for over $500 million in the spring of 2005 and Coca-Cola HBC bought Aqua Vision for 191.5 million euros in the summer of 2007.

Coca-Cola spent $276 million on the acquisition of one of Russia’s biggest juice producers – Nidan Soki – in 2010.
