Clashes continue despite Ukraine’s president offering deal to opposition

Violence continued in Kyiv this morning, despite the president of Ukraine
yesterday offering to make two opposition leaders prime minister and deputy
prime minister to defuse the protests sweeping the country.

In what was hoped might be a decisive breakthrough in Ukraine’s two month old
political crisis, President Yanukovych said that he was ready to appoint as
Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk, who heads the Fatherland party of the
jailed opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko.

He would also make the former world heavyweight boxing champion Vitali
Klitschko deputy Prime Minister as part of a package of other concessions
presented at a meeting
