Champions League playoff pairings set
Nyon, Switzerland – Monchengladbach will face Dynamo Kyiv and Malaga will play Panathinaikos in the Champions League playoff round, it was revealed Friday when the draw was held.
Monchengladbach was fourth in the Bundesliga, and Malaga finished fourth in La
Liga last season. Italian Serie A side Udinese, which will battle Braga from
Portugal, was the other club from a top league in the draw.
Among the other notables, Scottish side Celtic was drawn with Helsingborg from
Sweden and French squad Lille was drawn with Copenhagen from Denmark. Basel, a
surprise round of 16 team last year, was drawn against CFR Cluj from Romania.
The first game of the playoff series are Aug. 21-22, with the return legs Aug.
28-29. The 10 winners advance to the group stage.
